Within and around Idaho Falls, you will find 300,000 hardworking people, three institutions of higher education, major hospitals, regional airports, the Idaho National Laboratory, dozens of national retail outlets and restaurants, as well as many unique locally-owned shops and eateries. Our area offers abundant recreational and cultural opportunities. In short, Idaho Falls has something for everyone.

Recreation is plentiful. Idaho Falls boasts three incredible golf courses—including Pinecrest Golf Course—recognized by Life Magazine as one of the best public courses west of the Mississippi. The Idaho Falls Zoo —largest zoo in the state—is home to over 400 animals. Finally, our 30-plus parks are ideal for family gatherings and events.

The crown jewel of our City is the River Walk – a parkway along the Snake River that offers more than seven miles of bike- and pedestrian-friendly pathways and ample exhibit and performance space. A number of community events are held along the River Walk throughout the year. The highlight for many is Melaleuca’s Independence Day Freedom Celebration, which boasts the largest fireworks display west of the Mississippi.

Downtown features three wonderful museums: The Art Museum of Eastern Idaho, the ARTitorium on Broadway and the Museum of Idaho, which was designated an “Official NASA Observation Site” for the Total Solar Eclipse of 2017.

Idaho Falls is rich in community and civic spirit as evidenced by numerous community groups including Rotary, Civitans, Kiwanis, the Greater Idaho Falls Chamber of Commerce, Downtown Development Corporation, Idaho Falls Redevelopment Agency, and many others.

Idaho National Laboratory (INL), the nation’s lead nuclear energy research and development laboratory, is the City’s largest employer – and the second-largest employer in the state. The INL is a magnet for a number of affiliated businesses, which add significantly to the local economy.

If you’re interested in outdoor recreation, our proximity to Craters of the Moon National Monument and Preserve, Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks offers easy access for outdoor enthusiasts. Department Information

From the desert, to ice-packed rivers to backcountry terrain, our highly trained individuals tackle the worst of circumstances to protect the lives and property of our community and region. In 2023, the all-hazard emergency response teams responded to more than 18,000 calls while serving a population of approximately 108,000 residents occupying approximately 350 sq. miles. Our response area includes the city of Idaho Falls as well as the Bonneville County Fire Protection District. IFFD personnel are well trained and very versatile in their abilities to perform many different functions. They are all trained as emergency medical technicians. There are currently 54 personnel trained as paramedics. Our specialty teams consist of a Bicycle Response Team, Fire Investigations Team, Regional Response Hazardous Materials Team, Idaho Technical Search & Rescue Team and Swift Water Rescue. The department is one of two in the state to have an Insurance Service Organization (ISO) rating of two. (ISO ratings are one of the factors that affect insurance premiums.) Only 2.4 percent of the more than 48,000 fire departments nationwide have an ISO rating of two. Simply put, the better the department, the better the rating. The IFFD also trains and equips EMS personnel to respond to wildfire incidents. As a result, personnel have been deployed on wildfires in Idaho, Nevada, Utah, California, Montana, Wyoming, and Colorado. In the spring of 2017, we celebrated the grand opening of our new, state-of-the-art Fire Station/Fire Administration building in the heart of downtown Idaho Falls.
