Entry-Level Custody candidates must test with PST AND achieve a 70% or better on the PST Written assessment and pass the Physical Ability Test (PAT) to be considered for our hiring process.

Hiring Bonus

  • Applicants hired as entry level custody officers will receive a ten thousand dollar ($10,000) incentive. Five thousand dollars ($5,000) will be paid following the start of employment. Two thousand five hundred ($2,500) will be paid upon upon successful completion of the field training program (FTO). Two thousand five hundred ($2,500) will be paid upon successful completion of their probationary period.

Centrally located with easy access to I-5, I-405, and Highway 99, Lynnwood is ideal for businesses and residents looking for a place to call home. The community is home to Alderwood, one of the largest shopping malls and retail centers in Washington State. Because of its central location, well-designed office parks, and commercial services, Lynnwood has a number of major employers in the area including Edmonds Community College and Group Health Medical. Lynnwood is identified as a regional growth center 'Core City by the Puget Sound Regional Council and is the only Core City solely located in Snohomish County, as well as the only Core City located between Everett and Northgate (Seattle) along the I-5 corridor.

Department Information

Within the Lynnwood Police Department is a Detention Division, which operates the Lynnwood Municipal Jail. The jail is classified as a 46 bed holding facility and incarcerates misdemeanor offenders only. The average daily population is 40 offenders. The Detention Division employs 4 Custody Sergeants, 15 Custody Officers, and 1 Electronic Home Detention Officer. Officers have ample opportunities for training and advancement.

Hiring Status

Lynnwood Police Department - Custody Officer has 6 vacancies.

Entry-Level Custody candidates must test with PST AND achieve a 70% or better on the PST Written assessment and pass the Physical Ability Test (PAT)to be considered for our hiring process.

Applicants who meet the above requirements will be invited to apply during our next application cycle.  The ranking of our eligibility list is based on each applicant's PST score and veterans' preference points if applicable. Applicants who apply and place in the top 20 may be selected to complete a polygraph examination. Those who are successful will move forward to a Command Board which are conducted on an as needed-basis. Additional requirements include successful completion of a psychological evaluation, medical evaluation, thorough background investigation, credit check, and a Chief's interview.

Salary Information

Excellent wages ranging from a base annual rate of $76,336 - $83,491 per year.

Benefit Information

Additional pays include:

Longevity Premium Pay (5th year, 10th year, 15th year, and after 20th year).

Overtime at time and a half paid for work in excess of scheduled hours, court time or call-backs.

12 hour shift schedule.

Participation in the State of Washington PSERS Retirement System.

ICMA Deferred Compensation Program.

 Eleven paid holidays and one floating holiday per year. Paid vacation of 80 hours to 210 hours (after 20 years) annually.

Annual sick leave allowance as provided by State Statute (RCW 41.26), accrued at the rate of eight hours per month.

Medical, dental, vision, and life insurance coverage provided. Employer pays 100% of the medical, dental and vision premiums for the employee and 90% of dependent premiums for medical and dental except that the employer pays 100% of dependent premiums if you enroll in the Regence High Deductible Health Plan.

Bereavement/emergency leave program.

Uniforms and equipment provided and maintained by the City with monthly clothing cleaning allowance.
