Community Information

Walla Walla is a City of almost 34,000 people nestled close to the foothills of the Blue Mountains. It is the home of Whitman College and Walla Walla Community College (named the best CC in the nation in 2013). Walla Walla is also home for some of the best wine makers in the world. The Walla Walla Fire Department was established in 1864 and was one of the first advanced life support transporting agencies in the state of Washington. While our history is deep, we pride ourselves on being progressive in both fire suppression activities, technical responses, and emergency medical services.

The fire department is an all-hazards organization that provides fire protection and suppression (structure and wildland), advanced life support emergency medical transport services, technical rescue (swift-water, high and low angle rope, confined space, vehicle/machinery extrication, trench rescue, and hazardous materials response). The department responds to over 7,000 calls for service annually and has a very robust CARES program (community paramedicine) to address the more complex medical issues that our citizens may have.

Salary Information

$6,661 entry level based on 2024 contract wages. Contract is currently under negotiation. 

Educational Incentive Pay - AA Degree - 2%

Educational Incentive Pay - BA Degree - 4%

*Additional specialty pay can be obtained based on specialty assignments.
